Arts & Culture
If you like contemporary art, films, Jewish culture or a good yarn…
We’re using the theatre to give two very different perspectives on Israel this season. In Dai – a hit at last year’s Edinburgh festival – Iris Bahr transports the audience into the colourful world of a Tel Aviv café only minutes before a suicide bomber enters. SOLOMON: King, Poet & Lover explores a completely different Israel. It looks at the life of the man who built the first Temple in Jerusalem, wrote three books of the Bible, established peaceful borders throughout Israel, and kept 700 wives.
At Spiel, we consider whether the cultural work of Israel gets ‘lost in Translation’ when it is seen or heard out of context away from its core audiences. Movie Mondays celebrate Israeli cinema with screenings of Eytan Fox’s The Bubble and The Syrian Bride.
